Erectile Dysfunction is the inability to get and keep an erection firm enough for sex. It is also known as impotence. Erection trouble, from time to time, isn’t necessarily a cause for concern but if it is can ongoing issue it may affect your self-confidence and contribute to relationship problems. Sometimes impotence can be a sign of an underlying health condition that needs treatment. As a result, erectile dysfunction can affect you by having an unsatisfactory sex life, produce stress or anxiety, embarrassment or low self-esteem, relationship problems, and the inability to get your partner pregnant.

Viagra (sildenafil)

Sildenafil is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase, type 5, inhibitor. It increases blood flow to the penis and helps to get and maintain an erection. This medication comes in the form of a tablet and suspension that are taken by mouth.

 

Common side effects include: nosebleeds, headaches, upset stomach, flushing, trouble sleeping, fever, erections that last longer than normal, respiratory infection, nausea, vomiting, bronchitis, sore throat and runny nose. 

 

 

Serious side effects include: Low blood pressure (blurry vision, confusion, fainting, weakness), increased shortness of breath, Priapism (erections that won’t go away, lasting more than 4 hours), vision problems (loss of vision), hearing problems (hearing loss), heart problems (chest pain, confusion, shortness of breath, lightheaded).

 

Cialis (tadalafil)

Tadalafil is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase, type 5, inhibitor. It increases blood flow to the penis and helps to get and maintain an erection. This medications comes in tablets and is taken by mouth. 

 

Common side effects include: headache, upset stomach, back pain, muscle aches, flushing, runny nose, diarrhea.

 

Serious side effects include: Priapism (erections that won’t go away), Vision changes (seeing shade of blue when looking at objects, trouble distinguishing between blue and green, decrease or los of vision), hearing loss, low blood pressure (lightheaded, fainting, chest pain).

 

Trimix (prostaglandin E1, phentolamine, papaverine)

Trimix is an injection which contains prostaglandins E1, phentolamine and papaverine that is administered directly to the base of the penis to induce penile erection by increasing blood flow. The injection can be used 5 minutes before sex and its effects usually last for 1 hour. 

 

Common side effects include: temporary swelling of the penis skin, transitory pain at the site of injection, bleeding at site of injection, bleeding at site of injection, Priapism (erections that won’t go away). 

 

The first injection is done at our office to show you how to do it yourself at home. This also helps us determine the correct dose for your needs. There is a maximum of three injections per week and patients should wait 24 hours before taking another dose making sure to alternate between sides of the penis for each injection.
